Faith Over Fear: My Daily Strategy for Speaking with Confidence

I’ve always enjoyed talking. I love connecting with people, exchanging ideas, and sharing what I’m passionate about. But despite that, public speaking has been a long-time challenge for me. The nerves, the pressure, and the self-doubt used to take over.
Today, I find myself speaking almost every day. Whether it’s a Zoom meeting, a Teams call, or a presentation, my role requires me to lead conversations and communicate clearly. That used to intimidate me, but something changed.
I created a simple faith-based routine that helps me feel calm, confident, and ready.
My Daily Pre-Meeting Routine
Right before I speak, I follow three steps that center me and prepare me for whatever is ahead.
Breathing
I start with a short breathing exercise. Two short breaths in, followed by one long breath out. I do this about three times. It helps calm my body and bring me back to the present moment.
Scripture
Right above my computer monitor, next to the camera, I’ve taped a verse that has become a daily anchor for me. It is Philippians 4:6-7.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
I take a moment to read it slowly and let the words sink in.
Prayer
After reading the scripture, I say a short prayer. It is simple but powerful.
Lord, help me to be calm. Take away my nervousness. Let me bring value to this audience. Let my words be helpful, clear, and filled with grace.
Why It Helps
This routine has made a real difference in my life. It doesn’t take much time, but it shifts everything. It helps me show up with purpose, not pressure. With peace, not panic.
I don’t have to be perfect. I just have to be present. And with God’s help, I can face each opportunity with clarity and confidence.
If you’ve ever struggled with public speaking or performance anxiety, I encourage you to try this. Let your faith steady you. Let your routine support you. And let God speak through you.
